Fake Cup Claim Laughed At

The America's Cup, a symbol of national pride which was smashed, rebuilt and is now touring the country under heavy security. (The guy that attacked the cup has been moved to a more secure prison after being beaten up several times by other inmates. Why is that criminals are the most patriotic?) But is it the real thing? "No," says the editor of the yachting and powerboat monthly magazine, Boating New Zealand. People are queuing up to admire a replica.

The claim, made in the magazine's latest issue, has enraged the keeper of the cup, the Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron. Squadron general manager Mark Frankham initially laughed when told of the report. He said it was "bloody ridiculous".
