Esprit France in Doubt

Rumours are flying that Esprit France will not make it to the start line of the challenger series. The Yacht Club de Cannes entry has given up their base in the Cup Village in the Viaduct basin. They were to share a base with Swiss entry Fast 2000. The Swiss are now moving from a double site to a single site by swapping with Hawaii's Aloha Challenge.

Esprit joins the Spirit of Hong Kong and the Age of Russian campaigns as unlikely to turn up in Auckland in 1999. The America's Cup Challenger Association is still optimistic however and still expects 16 challengers to be in the running come October.
